On Friday, the older children from the Centre went to The Polka Theatre in Wimbledon to see a live performance of The Snow Queen, a classic Winter Fairy Tale by Hans Christian Andersen.
The Polka is one of the few theatres in the UK dedicated exclusively to children. Based in Wimbledon since 1979, Polka creates world-class theatre to entertain and inspire young audiences.
The Snow Queen tells the story of Kai and Gerda who are best friends. Not brother and sister but as close as if they were. Together, with their friends, they re-imagined the thrilling adventure of Hans Christian Andersen’s classic winter fairy-tale. A dusty attic was transformed into the Snow Queen’s icy palace, and we followed their journey as they tried to save Kai from the icy spell of the Snow Queen’s cold kiss. Would Gerda be able to melt his heart before Kai forgot her forever?
It was a fantastic first trip for the new year and we would like to thank the Polka Theatre who funded the tickets and transport for this visit under their “Curtain Up” scheme.
